Development of consumption-based land use indicators
With our demand for food, feed, energetic and material use of biomass extensive land use is associated, both at home and abroad. This entails considerable environmental effects. Therefore, land use should be measured more in detail. In this research project, area based land footprint indicators of biomass consumption were further developed and calculated based on global data sets.
Anforderungen an die Behandlung spezifischer Elektroaltgeräte unter Ressourcen- und Schadstoffaspekten
Am 24.10.2015 trat das novellierte ElektroG 2 in Kraft, das in § 24 (2) die Bundesregierung ermächtigt, weitergehende Anforderungen an die Behandlung von Elektroaltgeräten festzulegen. Die vorliegende Studie diente der Schaffung einer Grundlage für eine solche Verordnung. Es wurden Leiterplatten, Flachbildschirme, Kunststoffe und Photovoltaikmodule betrachtet.
Antifouling biocides in German coastal & inland waters – How reliable are exposure prognoses of EU-scenario models for marinas?
Reliable data regarding the amounts of leisure boasts and number of berths in marinas are needed for the EU biocidal products regulation of antifouling products. Since for Germany such data are lacking, a national survey was initiated by the German Federal Environmental Agency.
Erörterung ökologischer Grenzen der Primärrohstoffgewinnung und Entwicklung einer Methode zur Bewertung der ökologischen Rohstoffverfügbarkeit zur Weiterentwicklung des Kritikalitätskonzeptes (ÖkoRess I)
Im Vorhaben „Ökologische Rohstoffverfügbarkeit“ (ÖkoRess I) wurden Methoden zur Bewertung der Umweltgefährdungspotenziale bei der Rohstoffgewinnung entwickelt. Dazu wurde zunächst in einem iterativen Prozess anhand von 40 Fallbeispielen ein standortbezogenes Bewertungsmodell entwickelt und getestet.

Themen wie Klimawandel, Biodiversitätsverlust oder Wüstenbildung sind keine objektiv gegebenen Phänomene. Der Diskurs darüber ist von Machtbeziehungen sowie widerstreitenden Perspektiven und Interpretationen geprägt. Diese bestimmen in komplexer Weise, wie Umweltprobleme gesellschaftlich verstanden und politisch adressiert werden.

Im Projekt wurde ein Konzept (genannt GERDA = GEobased Runoff, Erosion, and Drainage risk Assessment for Germany) entwickelt, dass der qualifizierten Abschätzung von Einträgen von Pflanzenschutzmitteln über Runoff und Drainage in Oberflächengewässer dient.

Immobilisation of nitrogen in context of critical loads
Estimating the nitrogen immobilisation under steady state condition is a crucial part of the critical load calculation. This report contains the results of a literature review focusing on this topic and the description of a new method to estimate the nitrogen immobilisation.
Nutzung aktueller Erkenntnisse aus der Polarforschung für die Antarktis-Umweltschutzaufgaben
In der Studie werden der Kenntnisstand über die in der marinen und terrestrischen Polarforschung zum Einsatz kommenden Geräte und Verfahren einschließlich notwendiger Logistik aktualisiert und deren potentielle Auswirkungen auf die antarktische Umwelt bewertet. Das Gleiche erfolgt für die touristischen Aktivitäten und deren Logistik (Kreuzfahrtschiffe, Flugzeuge, Camps).
