    All environmental crimes: cases recorded by the police, cleared-up cases and suspects (2004-2016)

    The bar chart shows cases recorded by the police, cleared-up cases and suspects for all environmental crimes from 2004 to 2016. The number of cases recorded by the police fell by 32 % from 29.117 in 2004 to 19.704 in 2016. The number of cleared-up cases and suspects also fell by 35 % and 33 % respectively over the same period. In 2016, 11.511 cases were cleared-up and there were 13.745 suspects.

    All environmental crimes: cases recorded by the police, by type of crime (2016)

    The pie chart shows all environmental crimes recorded by the police in 2016, by individual offences. In 2016, 7.528 cases, i.e. 38 % of all environmental crimes, were criminal offences involving the unauthorised handling of waste (§ 326 except paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code). Crimes under the Animal Protection Act accounted for 33 % of the total with 6.527 cases and water pollution for 13 % with 2.563 cases.
