Considerations for Article 6 engagement
The Paris Agreement sets out the framework for global efforts to address climate change after 2020. Article 6 of the agreement provides for international cooperation through carbon markets to achieve targets jointly on a voluntary basis.
Design Options for the New International Market Mechanism under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement
In this project commissioned by the German Environment Agency, important aspects of the mechanism under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement were examined in more detail.
Indicators for sustainable development under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement
This report analyses how the role of sustainable development can be strengthened in the process of further designing the mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Indicators for the promotion of sustainable development in carbon market mechanisms
This report assesses options for the effective implementation of sustainable development impact assessment, in the context of climate change mitigation mechanisms such as those of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. To ensure that these mechanisms contribute to sustainable development in the host country, it is necessary to measure this effect.
Further development of the EU ETS for aviation against the background of the introduction of a global market-based measure by ICAO
In 2012, aviation was included in the EU ETS. In 2016, the ICAO also adopted a global measure to limit CO2 emissions from international aviation (CORSIA). The aim of the research project is to investigate the reciprocal effects between these two market-based instruments. In particular, several options how both could be optimally combined are considered.
Avoiding double counting between CORSIA and Nationally Determined Contributions – Options for accounting under the Paris Agreement
This discussion paper assesses how robust accounting could be implemented under the Paris Agreement in order to avoid double counting between nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) implemented under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Offset credit supply potential for CORSIA
This discussion paper assesses how robust accounting could be implemented under the Paris Agreement in order to avoid double counting between nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) implemented under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Options for Improving the Emission Unit Eligibility Criteria under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation
Analysis and assessment of the design of an offsetting system for international aviation
