FW-R-3: Humus reserves in forest soils

The illustration FW-R-3 ’Humus reserves in forest soils’ indicates – for the period of 1992 to 2021 – in the shape of a line chart, the annual reserves of organic carbon in forest soils in tonnes per hectare. During the observation period, carbon reserves increased continuously and significantly from roughly 75 tonnes per hectare to 85 tonnes per hectare.

WW-I-5: Peak discharge values in watercourses

The bar chart WW-I-5 ‘Peak discharge values in watercourses’ contains a biaxial diagram. The bar chart shows for the years 1961 to 2021 – separately for the hydrological winter half-year (1st November of the previous year to 30th April) and the hydrological summer half-year (1st May to 31st October) – on one hand the highest peak discharge at selected watercourse gauges as a multiple of MHQ.

    WW-I-4: Floodwater

The bar chart WW-I-4 ’Floodwater’ shows – for the years of 1961 to 2021 – the number of floodwater days in the hydrological winter half-year (1st November of the previous year to 30th April) and in the hydrological summer half-year (1st May to 31st October) respectively, prevailing in the river basins of the Danube, Elbe, Rhine, Eider and Weser. The structure of the indicator is characterised by individual flood events which typically influence several river basins.

    WW-I-1: Terrestrially stored water

The line chart WW-I-1 ’Terrestrially stored water’ shows the deviations of the entire terrestrially stored water masses from the long-term mean for the months of the period 2002–2021 in millimetres. The time series is marked by distinct fluctuations. While there is still a tendency towards positive anomalies at the beginning of the 2000s, it is clear that in Germany, the terrestrially stored water masses have been decreasing substantially since the beginning of 2010.

    GE-R-3: Information on pollen

The illustration GE-R-3 ’Information on pollen’ contains a biaxial chart. The chart shows the number of subscribers to the pollen exposure risk index and the number of pollen diary users. The number of subscriptions to the pollen exposure risk index increased to roughly 19,000 from the year of 2008 to the middle of the 2010s. Up to 2014 only the Pollen app was included, from 2015 onwards the figures are summarised for subscriptions to the Pollen app and the ‘Husteblume’ app.

    BAU-I-3: Cooling degree days

The line chart illustrated in BAU-I-3 ‘Cooling degree days’ shows the mean of cooling degree days for 1951 to 2017 in summer climate regions according to DIN-4108-2:2013-2 in Kelvin per day. The illustration differentiates between the summer climate regions A, B and C. All three lines show a significantly rising trend over the years with distinct high points in 2003 and 2018, albeit with distinct fluctuations from year to year.
