Assessment of the work of the international HBM network as well as event organisation


The HBM4EU network brought together over 100 partner institutions from EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland, Israel, and Switzerland. The 17 work packages strengthened the interface between science and policy, for example by prioritizing substances and translating research findings into policy processes. The laboratory network and the prioritization procedures were considered particularly successful. Challenges were identified in maintaining continuous political dialogue, involving the European Commission, and facilitating communication across thematic areas. National contact points and hubs varied in effectiveness, influenced by their structures, funding, and political support. Overall, HBM4EU strengthened HBM programs, data infrastructure, cooperation, and monitoring in most participating countries.
