To allow the ISC3 a quick start to its substantive work, the clients (UBA/BMUB) have commissioned the drafting of three studies. The objective of this study was to create a knowledge base by mapping the most relevant initiatives/approaches in the field of sustainable chemistry.

Estimating the nitrogen immobilisation under steady state condition is a crucial part of the critical load calculation. This report contains the results of a literature review focusing on this topic and the description of a new method to estimate the nitrogen immobilisation.

Dieses Papier steht in enger inhaltlicher Verbindung zum bereits 2016 veröffentlichten Positionspapier der Ressourcenkommission „Ein ressourceneffizientes Europa – Ein Programm für Klima, Wettbewerbsfä­higkeit und Beschäftigung“. Dieses zeigt auf, dass eine forcierte Ressourcenpolitik ökonomische und soziale Vorteile für umsetzende Volkswirtschaften bedeutet.

In der Studie werden der Kenntnisstand über die in der marinen und terrestrischen Polarforschung zum Einsatz kommenden Geräte und Verfahren einschließlich notwendiger Logistik aktualisiert und deren potentielle Auswirkungen auf die antarktische Umwelt bewertet. Das Gleiche erfolgt für die touristischen Aktivitäten und deren Logistik (Kreuzfahrtschiffe, Flugzeuge, Camps).

Die derzeit vorgeschlagene planetare Leitplanke (Planetary Boundary) für Stickstoff wird deutlich überschritten. Die vorliegende Studie widmet sich der Nutzbarkeit dieses globalen Konzepts für nationale Zwecke zur Stickstoffminderung.

Deutschland hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, weniger Fläche für Siedlung und Verkehr neu in Anspruch zu nehmen, die biologische Vielfalt zu erhalten und Anpassungen an den Klimawandel vorzunehmen. Eine flächensparende Straßennetzgestaltung unter Nutzung von Rückbaumöglichkeiten könnte dazu einen Beitrag leisten.

This question calls for the derivation of climate resilient future pathways that consider the synergies between adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development action.

In this research project the indoor air quality in energy-efficient buildings has been investigated with regard to odours and volatile organic compounds. The original aim of the study was to investigate the indoor air quality of energy-efficient retrofitted buildings using the example of the German Environment Agency’s (Umweltbundesamt, UBA) Bismarckplatz office building in Berlin.

Das Themenfeld „Soziale Aspekte des Natur- und Umweltschutzes“ ist in der Umweltforschungsdatenbank stark vertreten. Über 1.000 Projekte können dazu recherchiert werden. Die Projekte werden in drei Teilbänden veröffentlicht: Band I: Umweltgerechtigkeit; Band II: Soziale Aspekte der Umweltpolitik; Band III: Umweltbewusstsein und sozialer Wandel.
