Contributions to the further development of the EC Waste Shipment Regulation

The application and enforcement of Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2006 on shipments of waste (“WSR”) rise to special challenges for economic agents and competent authorities.  The classification of waste in one of the annexes of the WSR, and therefore the crucial position for the applicable procedure, is rather complex. During the project the enforcement of the WSR in Germany was analyzed in relation to specific parts of the regulation and proposals were elaborated for:

a. better combating illegal traffic
b. a more efficient enforcement
c. strengthening circular economy.

The results of this study shall be integrated in flow with the revision of the WSR at EU level.
