This report identifies a set of key topics for future European collaboration in environmental and sustainability research and innovation (ES R&I). Building on stakeholder priorities from 14 countries and regions, expert input, and policy analysis, the shortlist highlights shared transnational challenges and opportunities for coordinated funding.
Organised around four environmental and sustainability themes - resilient net-zero, circular production systems; Biodiversity and climate; Sustainable urbanisation; and Nature, environmentally and socially friendly energy transition – and four cross-cutting societal challenges – Security; Democracy and participation; Regulatory efficiency and competitiveness; and Digitalisation - the topics provide a foundation for CASRI’s matchmaking process with potential funders and for shaping the forthcoming Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
