In 2007 the German supreme federal authorities the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) issued a joint research strategy known as ”Nanotechnology: Health and Environmental Risks of Nanomaterials”, lead-managed by BAuA.

Fire-fighting foams are used in fire-fighting to extinguish flammable liquids (fire category B) and solids which liquefy in case of fire or heat exposure.

This report focuses on the estimation of the costs of (behavioural, non-technical) emission mitigation measures and instruments, including one mitigation option from the agricultural sector, one for aerosol sprays and several from the transport sector.

The Federal Environment Agency is presenting a first analysis of the air pollution situation in Germany of the year 2012 (as per 17/01/2013) compared to previous years. The analysis is based on preliminary, not finally validated data from the monitoring networks of the Länder (German federal states) and the Federal Environment Agency.

In this report we assess how ambitious emission reduction pledges of emerging economies are compared to business as usual emissions, the countries' mitigation potential and respective efforts based on different equity principles.

Research and development in nanotechnology is directed towards creating im-proved materials, devices, and systems that exploit the new properties.

Nanotechnology can make jackets more water- and tableclothes more dirt-repellent. It can also protect the environment, for example if the textiles can be used longer or if self-cleaning surfaces save cleaning agents. The nanomaterials are to be stably embedded to maintain the product quality and functionality of the textiles.
