The subject of this project was the preparation of substance reports for five substances relevant for building products emissions. For these substances, the toxicological data basis was researched, compiled and evaluated, and EU-LCI values were proposed. The EU-LCI values allow the harmonisation of the health assessment of building products emissions throughout Europe.

Von Oktober 2018 bis April 2019 wurde die Außenluft und die Deposition an zwei Messpunkten in der Stadt Thalheim/Erzgebirge auf polychlorierte Dibenzodioxine und -furane (PCDD/F) untersucht, um Konzentrationen und Muster von PCCD/F in einer von holzbetriebenen Kleinfeuerungsanlagen geprägten Region zu ermitteln.

To further prevent and reduce the pollution of air, water, and soil and to safeguard human health and well-being, the European regulatory framework needs to be improved to include a cross-regulatory approach.

Die Überwachung von Chemikalien in Gewässern ist angesichts der zunehmenden Vielzahl und ihrer möglichen Mischung und Wirkung herausfordernd. Insbesondere für die frühzeitige Aufdeckung von chemischen Belastungen sind zuverlässige innovative Methoden notwendig. Im Projekt wurde die Kombination der passiven Probenahme mit effekt-basierten Methoden getestet.

Nach der Verabschiedung der Quecksilberverordnung (EU) 2017/852 im Frühjahr 2017 durch Rat und Parlament fanden nunmehr die zweite (2018) und dritte (2019) Vertragsstaatenkonferenz der Minamata Konvention statt. Hier waren einige wichtige Festlegungen zu treffen, um das Übereinkommen mit Leben zu füllen und das Sekretariat arbeitsfähig zu machen.

Many chemicals for which a PBT assessment is necessary are ionized in the environment. Therefore, the project aimed to find appropriate screening criteria for ionic organic chemicals (IOCs) to estimate their bioaccumulation potential. Twenty possible parameters were examined.

Public consultation is a very important process for a better participation and takes place on a voluntary basis. For REACH, several public consultation procedures were therefore incorporated as part of the different REACH processes, such as substance evaluations, substance identifications, restrictions or authorisation procedures.

The report aims at identifying deficits in the interplay of the REACH processes registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction and points out potential obstacles in meeting the regulation’s goal of achieving a high level of protection in an efficient way.

In our fields, several plant protection products (PPPs) are often applied at the same time and/or in sequence. In the current authorisation, however, PPPs are only evaluated individually. As a result, effects from typical PPP applications often remain undetected and represent a problematic and alarming gap in the authorisation of PPPs.

Von Juni 2018 bis Mai 2019 wurde die Außenluft und die Deposition an den UBA-Messstationen Waldhof und Schmücke auf polychlorierte Dibenzodioxine und -furane (PCDD/F) und polychlorierte Biphenyle (PCB) untersucht, um aktuelle Werte für die Hintergrundbelastung in Deutschland zu ermitteln.

This guidance describes methods and criteria to evaluate rodent break back/snap traps regarding their animal welfare impact and efficacy. The assessment follows a tiered approach starting with the tests of the mechanical properties, followed by a semi-field trial testing the animal welfare impact and basic efficacy, and optionally supplemented by the extended efficacy test in the field.

Climate-impacting refrigerants and blowing agents are often replaced by halogenated substances which, despite their low global warming potential, are not unproblematic for the environment. The study examines quantities used and emissions today and in the future as well as degradation pathways and products.
