Free broschures are available at the visitor center at our Dessau-Roßlau site. You can also visit a branch of our environmental library at our sites in Dessau-Roßlau, Bad Elster as well as at one of our Berlin sites. The model eco-building at our Dessau-Roßlau site is also worth a visit.
Our headquarters are located in Dessau-Roßlau in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, where we have been since 2005. Our other offices are in Berlin, Bad Elster (Saxony), Langen (Hesse), Merseburg (Saxony-Anhalt), Salzgitter (Lower Saxony) and Cottbus (Brandenburg). We also operate a seven station measurement network extending from Zingst on Rügen island to Zugspitze.
Division V of the German Environment Agency is responsible for climate protection, energy and emissions trading. The German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) is based here. In Germany, it is the body responsible for trading in certificates for the emission of climate-damaging carbon dioxide.
Division IV is tasked with chemical safety. We endeavour to protect the public and the environment against hazardous chemicals, to which end we investigate and assess environmentally harmful substances and preparations. When potential hazards come to light, we devise risk reduction measures, which can involve banning the use and/or manufacture of a particular substance.
Division III investigates a host of issues, including the following: How can production processes be made greener? How can natural resources be conserved?
Division II is in charge of waterbody and soil protection as well as public-health issues such as air and drinking water quality.
Division I’s sphere of responsibility encompasses sustainable development strategies, traffic and noise pollution. In this regard, sustainable-development strategies aimed at substantially reducing the carbon footprint of energy and raw material use are taking on ever growing importance.
