New Findings of the IPCC Special Report Global Warming of 1.5°C

Webinar of the German Environment Agency on the relevance of the contents of the special report for the climate policy, organized on Friday, 23rd November 2018 from 10:00 to 12:00.

The Paris Agreement commits all countries of the world to implement climate change mitigation measures to limit global warming to well below 2°C or 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. At the same time, as the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change have formulated information needs on scientific issues around the 1.5-degree warming threshold. The IPCC was invited to prepare a special report on important aspects of this objective. This IPCC Special Report on "Global Warming of 1.5°C" was published on 8th October 2018.

The report summarizes the global scientific knowledge on the impact of 1.5°C global warming above pre-industrial levels and on the greenhouse gas emission pathways consistent with such warming. It is studying measures to reinforce and accelerate tackling climate change. A separate chapter focuses on the links to the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The publication of the special report is associated with high political expectations. It will strongly influence the global, European and national level discussions in Germany on the implementation of the results of the Paris Agreement at all political levels and in many policy fields.

In order to present important messages of the report in the context of climate and environmental policy and to make them available for policy-making, the German Environment Agency will present selected findings of the report in a Webinar.
