New guidance on climate management in companies published
A new guide from the German Environment Agency provides a well-founded and practical description of how companies can establish a climate management system to reduce their climate impacts and climate risks in a systematic, transparent and credible manner.
Nine steps to climate management
The guide outlines the necessary tasks and steps for climate management across nine stages, enabling companies to identify, manage, monitor, communicate and continuously reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks:

- Greenhouse gas emissions Accounting
- Identify climate risks and opportunities
- Set climate targets
- Plan and implement measures
- Communicate and report
- Check
- Adjust and improve
Each stage is illustrated with best-practice examples and practical advice, which are particularly suitable for small and medium-sized companies.
EMAS Climate Module
The climate management approach described here is based on the European Union’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and derives requirements for managing greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks from it. It can therefore also be referred to as the EMAS Climate Module and integrates seamlessly into established environmental management structures. However, companies can also apply this climate management system independently of EMAS or any environmental management system.
