Indicator: Environmental management

A graph shows the development of EMAS-certified organisations in Germany between 2005 and 2019, sorted by number of organisations, sites and employees. The target of the Sustainability Strategy (5,000 sites by 2030) is also shown.

EMAS is an internationally applicable system for environmental management. Environmental management at UBA

The German Environment Agency (UBA) introduced an environmental management system in the late 1990s which was later validated in 2001 according to the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS Regulation). EMAS has the most stringent requirements worldwide. Each of UBA’s 15 sites has been validated according to EMAS. In 2017, UBA decided to become greenhouse gas-neutral. read more
