New research project „ZeroPM“ with UBA participation

In autumn 2021, the new European research project "ZeroPM: Zero Pollution of Persistent, Mobile substances" will start. The German Environment Agency (UBA) is involved as a project partner. ZeroPM will develop political, technological and market-based tools that aim to reduce the use and emissions of persistent and mobile substances as well as contamination from such substances.

The final PMT/vPvM criteria after public consultation

The final PMT and vPvM criteria are the result of several public consultations and the scientific and technical development under REACH. Over 100 scientists and institutions contributed with thorough scientific and technical comments. The following criteria were presented at the 30th Caracal meeting (01 - 02 July 2019) and are also published in UBA TEXTE 127/2019 (Neumann and Schliebner, 2019).

Utilization of the criteria to identify PMT/vPvM substances

Since 2019, the PMT/vPvM criteria have been widely used under the EU´s chemicals legislation REACH to identify and regulate persistent and mobile substances. In fall of 2021 a new research project “ZeroPM” will be initiated aiming at the reduction of Emissions of persistent and mobile substances to better protect the environment and human health from such substances.

The second PMT Workshop 2018: “PMT substances under REACH”

The second PMT Workshop entitled "PMT and vPvM substances under REACH. Voluntary measures and regulatory options to protect the sources of drinking water" took place on the 13th-14th of March 2018 in Berlin. It was organized by UBA and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). Over 100 experts from 15 nations representing the water suppliers, chemical industry, academia and regulators attended.

Public consultation on the PMT/vPvM criteria

Public consultation on the PMT/vPvM criteria

Between 2016 and 2019, the UBA carried out several public consultations to ensure a wide agreement on the PMT/vPvM criteria. This led to the publication of the result of the scientific and technical development of PMT/vPvM criteria and guidelines for their assessment under REACH, which were unveiled at the 30th Caracal meeting in 2019 (Doc. CACS/MS/19/2019; CARACAL-30; 01 - 02 July 2019).
