Compost Manual
One of the environmental challenges we are facing today is the closing of materials loop in a resource-efficient and environmentally friendly way. This also applies to organic waste stream. Meanwhile, legislators are not just leaving it all up to the commitment of amateur gardeners to recycle organic waste.
What matters 2015
Nitrogen. Too much of a good thing?
Useful or harmful? A substance with many facets
Use of nanomaterials and nanoscale products for wastewater treatment
The treatment of contaminated water prior to its introduction into surface water is one of the most pressing global challenges of the future. Existing processes for treating water and wastewater can be optimized by suitable nanotechnology applications, which can result in a more targeted removal of contaminants, better energy efficiency and lower costs.
Advisory Assistance Programme
Since 2000, BMUB’s Advisory Assistance Programme (AAP) has supported the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and other countries neighbouring the European Union in a development which is aligned to European environmental standards.
How can the new climate agreement support robust national mitigation targets? - Opportunities up to Paris and beyond
This report is a synthesis of the research and re-evaluates the options previously considered in this project (Vieweg et al (2014)) in the light of the negotiation process up to today. The mitigation-related design elements considered are:
A road toll for Germany: Every kilometre counts
A distance-based toll for HGV, coaches and cars makes it possible to set differentiated charges for infrastructure and other costs incurred by society as a result of road traffic – for instance, environmental costs.
Evaluation and development of recommendations on the CDM EB’s Sustainable Development tool including the sustainability requirements of other flexible mechanisms
The research project seeks to identify the CDM SD tool's possible shortcomings, and to make structured recommendations on how to improve the EB's SD tool. Findings from this project are meant to have a lighthouse effect on the development of provisions on Sustainable Development within other carbon mechanisms of the UNFCCC and beyond.
Status of nutrient bookkeeping in the Baltic Sea countries
The Baltic Sea is under considerable ecological pressure from nutrient input originating from land-based diffuse sources and nutrient losses caused by agricultural land use.
Emission Balance of Renewable Energy Sources in 2014 (Flyer)
Calculations for the year 2014 show that the expansion of renewable energies contributes substantially to achieving national climate goals in Germany. Over all energy sectors (i.e. electricity, heat and transport) fossil fuels are increasingly replaced by renewable energies thereby permanently avoiding energy related emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and air pollutants.
Guidance on Communication on Substances in Articles
This guidance supports the communication in supply chains regarding substances of very high concern in articles. It is addressed to producers, importers and retailers of articles in the EU. It aims to provide guidance to actors handling articles on a structured approach.
Feasibility Study „Supply chain communication on SVHC in Articles“
In this study, a “comprehensive data set” is developed which would enable communication on all relevant aspects of substances in articles with regard to the legal requirements under REACH, including communication of information to ensure safe handling of articles.
