Remediation management for local and wide-spread PFAS contaminations
PFAS -as group of substances- are becoming increasingly important in the treatment of contaminated sites and harmful soil changes.
Environmental Awareness in Germany 2018
Compared to the last study of 2016, the study on environmental awareness in Germany 2018 shows that the importance of environmental protection and climate action gained in significance in the eyes of the population. The expectations towards relevant actors seem to have increased as well.
Further development of the EU ETS for aviation against the background of the introduction of a global market-based measure by ICAO
In 2012, aviation was included in the EU ETS. In 2016, the ICAO also adopted a global measure to limit CO2 emissions from international aviation (CORSIA). The aim of the research project is to investigate the reciprocal effects between these two market-based instruments. In particular, several options how both could be optimally combined are considered.
Nanomaterials in the environment
Recommendations of the German Environment Agency
Nanomaterials can have different or new properties in comparison with conventional chemicals and materials. Meanwhile the substance legislations was partially adapted by nano-specific provisions; for parts however adaptation needs still exist. As a result, specific environmental risks cannot be fully described and assessed as well as appropriate measures to minimize the risks cannot be taken.
Avoiding double counting between CORSIA and Nationally Determined Contributions – Options for accounting under the Paris Agreement
This discussion paper assesses how robust accounting could be implemented under the Paris Agreement in order to avoid double counting between nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) implemented under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Offset credit supply potential for CORSIA
This discussion paper assesses how robust accounting could be implemented under the Paris Agreement in order to avoid double counting between nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) implemented under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Options for Improving the Emission Unit Eligibility Criteria under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation
Necessary adaptations for a harmonized fieldtesting procedure and risk assessment of earthworms (terrestrial)
The purpose of this project was to provide scientifically robust and practical information on the variability of the endpoints assessed in earthworm field studies, the statistical significance of the results and the level of the statistically detectable effects of the chemicals tested - with the aim of developing suggestions for improving the test design.
Advancing REACH: Substances in Articles
This report analyses the current legal framework of REACH instruments governing the risk management and related notification and communication obligations concerning “substances in articles” (SiA). The study discusses the definition of the term “article” and its interplay with chemical substances contained in the article or that are an integral element thereof.
