Consequences of the climate crisis in Germany are becoming more severe

Harvested grain field with yellow stubble and bales of straw. Dark, low-hanging clouds loom menacingly in the sky.

Germany regularly experiences heatwaves, is getting warmer overall and is losing water. This is demonstrated by the new monitoring report on the Federal Government's German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (DAS), which Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke and UBA President Dirk Messner presented in Berlin.

European Mobility Week: Sustainable mobility saves energy

A banner reads: "European Mobility Week 16 to 22 September Mix and Move! - climate-friendly mobility."

Sustainable mobility saves energy – and in many different ways. As part of the European Mobility Week (EMW), which takes place from 16 to 22 September, municipalities together with local actors are demonstrating that being sustainably mobile can also save energy.

Water resources must be better protected

Water splashing on someone's hands

Slow-to-degrade, mobile and partly toxic chemicals, so-called PMT/vPvM substances, can endanger our water resources over a long period of time. That is why the German Environment Agency – in line with the European chemicals regulation REACH – is calling for emissions of such substances into the environment to be minimised. The urgent need for action is shown by four new UBA studies.

The UBA

New UBA building serves as a model for sustainable construction

When in operation, the building will be entirely self-sufficient in renewable energy – through photovoltaics and a heat pump.

When in operation, the building will be entirely self-sufficient in renewable energy – through photovoltaics and a heat pump. In addition, environmentally compatible building materials such as recycled concrete and insulation with renewable raw materials were used. The building can therefore serve as a model for other federal buildings.
