Formation of the CASRI Consortium

The CASRI consortium evolved from the Interest Group on Sustainability Research and Solutions (IG EPAS) within the EPA Network of Heads of Environment Protection Agencies across 37 countries.

EPA Heads approved IG EPAS in October 2022, to facilitate strategic research collaboration among epas and between the EPA Network and its partners. Coordinated by the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA), IG EPAS enables collaborative efforts for actionable knowledge and sustainable solutions.

To achieve the IG EPAS objectives, building on the experiences gained and partnerships established in the INSPIRATION project, UBA formed the CASRI consortium and submitted a proposal to receive funding by European Union Horizon Europe.

Composition of the Consortium

CASRI comprises 17 European partners from 13 countries, along with the EEA, forming a diverse and experienced consortium. Additional countries are active observers of CASRI.

These partners closely collaborate with institutions in the Interest Group EPAS and the broader EPA Network.

The consortium's structure mobilizes actors across EU member states to enhance policy coherence and align national funding agendas towards addressing urgent environmental challenges effectively.

Additionally, participation from Montenegro, Switzerland and the UK enriches CASRI with diverse expertise and broader perspectives, ensuring relevance and applicability across various regions and backgrounds.

CASRI fosters collaboration between epas and other research-oriented actors to bridge gaps between national and EU environmental research agendas, ultimately aiming to deliver innovative solutions for addressing global challenges.
