The project's main goal is to have an advanced safe water and sanitation service provision in rural areas in the Republic of Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within the project, the integrative implementation of “Water and Sanitation Safety Plans” is exemplarily piloted in rural areas, and the feasibility assessed. Tools and templates developed under the Advisory Assistance Programme’s project in Serbia will be advanced. As a basis for a continual implementation of the management of drinking water and sanitation systems, the steps which are part of the risk management approaches will be introduced to the pilot regions in a first implementation cycle. Based on this experience, a knowledge hub for further distribution and application of the approaches should be established in the two countries, and thus a contribution to safe sanitation and drinking water supply should be achieved beyond the duration of the project.
