Indicator: Eutrophication of the North Sea/Baltic Sea by nitrogen
The German Environment Agency (UBA) supports the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at all levels after the UN Member States adopted them in September 2015. In addition to implementation at national and local level, UBA's efforts in the area of sustainability focus on an implementation of the SDGs at EU level.
Many projects that make use of land can have negative environmental impacts. This includes soil sealing or even degradation of natural soils, for example as a result of the construction of buildings or industrial facilities. Landscape fragmentation by streets and railway tracks is also a problem.
Division I’s sphere of responsibility encompasses sustainable development strategies, traffic and noise pollution. In this regard, sustainable-development strategies aimed at substantially reducing the carbon footprint of energy and raw material use are taking on ever growing importance.
