All human activity depends on the services provided by ecosystems, and the biodiversity these ecosystems are based on. Ecosystems and their services are directly or indirectly affected by virtually all environmental pressures including land use and land use change, climate change, pollution to water, air and soil, and water scarcity.
The methodology used in CASRI to involve stakeholders in the various phases of the project has been published. The aim of the methodology is the co-creation of a strategic research and innovation agenda by national key stakeholders, environmental protection agencies and research funders in 14 project countries.
In April 2024, the EU-funded CASRI project (Collaborative Action for Systemic, Actionable, and Transversal Sustainability Research and Innovation) was officially launched at the German Environment Agency (UBA) in Dessau.
The Sino-German Track II Dialogue (T2D) on Climate Change and Sustainable Development was launched in December 2020. It is a central exchange format for German and Chinese scientists to support the ministerial dialog.
The Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC) adopted at the fifth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in Bonn sets concrete targets and guidelines for the entire lifecycle of chemicals. In addition to this framework, the conference also adopted the Bonn Declaration, in which ministers and delegation leaders committed to the implementation of the GFC.
Chemicals are a major driver for global warming, biodiversity loss and pollution. Bold political action is urgently needed. The Fifth World Chemicals Conference (ICCM5) 25-29 September 2023 in Bonn/Germany is bound to set up a stronger policy framework for the sound management of chemicals at global level.
Latvia will assume the two-year rotational chairmanship of the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission (HELCOM) on 1 July 2022. Germany’s Chair focused on biodiversity and climate, sought solutions for unexploded ordnance and underwater noise and extended measures to combat pollution of the Baltic Sea through eutrophication, hazardous substances and marine litter.
