KaRMa serves municipalities to make urban habitats less attractive to rats. The campaign aims to reduce food availability in parks, playgrounds and sewers, so that rats do not even start to settle in the city. As a consequence, less rat poison has to be used to control rats - a huge benefit for the protection of human health and the environment.

Various animals may serve as hosts for infectious agents and can transmit diseases to other animals as well as humans. Insects, mites and ticks can be found amongst these so-called vectors. Vertebrates, for example rats and mice, may also act as vectors or as disease reservoir.
