Coordination of the project network "BayKlimaFit - Strategies for the adaptation of crop plants to climate change"

Background and Goals

The BayKlimaFit project association (PV) has provided important insights into the adaptation of crops to climate change and thus contributed to the Bavarian Climate Adaptation Strategy by developing Bavarian crops with improved tolerance to changing environmental conditions. Since the start of the project in February 2016, the coordination of the PV BayKlimaFit has supported the individual projects with a large number of measures in order to promote the network's optimal content and technology networking. The aim was to exploit synergy effects between Bavarian universities, research institutions and plant breeding companies, across key topics and crops.

Main topics of research are in three areas:

  1. Waterlogging and cold - adaptation strategies for young plants to the consequences of climate change
  2. Climate-related heat events and drought - Stress management through metabolic adaptation
  3. Symbionts and pathogens - tolerance to environmental stress in times of climate change

The co-ordination project organized events (kick-offs, symposia, workshops) and contributed to public relations through informational videos, professional photo presentations, information sessions, lectures, press releases and publications.

The project BayKlimaFit is divided in ten subprojects. Objective of the first subproject "Coordination of the project network" is to optimize the research for the adaptation of plants to climate change in Bavaria within the project network BayKlimaFit. Taking a lead in central tasks such as administrative control and a concentrated public relation work will support the project leader in their subprojects. Furthermore, a thorough and intensive cooperation with all subprojects managers will ensure an optimal network across the subprojects in terms of content and technology.
