Setting up an operating a web-based information platform for soil data in Germany

Background and Goals

The "Setting up and operating a web-based information platform for soil data (meta data) in Germany to support climate effect and climate adaptation research with reliable soil data" project is designed to support climate effect and climate adaptation research. There are a variety of activities in Germany to record and monitor the soil condition. However, the information on this soil data is not in a standardised form and is spread over numerous locations. There is no guarantee that the data can be accessed.

Objectives: Provision of meta information for data from soil monitoring and soil condition recording. Informing the general public and specialist groups of activities and the data available (distribution of study locations, study parameters, contacts, data availability).

Project methodology:

  • Use/links to existing data portals and web services (including PortalU and GDI-DE);
  • Based on the concept for data provision and efficient use of soil data from the BOKLIM project;
  • Implementation of results from ongoing work in INSPIRE (derived technical schemes);
  • Establishment of a measured data infrastructure for provision of climate-related soil data;
  • Close cooperation with the federal authorities responsible for soil data.
