International Online Event "Green Cooling Summit 2022"
On 13./14.09.2022, Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the German Environment Agency (UBA) on behalf of the Environment Ministry are holding the second ‚Green Cooling Summit‘ on the implementation of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. In the centre of this year‘s online conference will be the hydroflurocarbon (HFC) phase-down in supermarket refrigeration.
Most developing countries need to freeze their HFC consumption according to the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol from 01.01.2024 onwards. This means that they are not allowed to use a higher HFC amounts compared to the average use in the years 2020 to 2022. The first phase-down step will then follow in 2029 with a reduction by 10%. Since in many countries HFC use has been increasing sharply over the last years, this trend needs to be reversed by the deployment of natural refrigerants such as hydrocarbons, ammonia and carbon dioxide.
Supermarket refrigeration plants exhibit very high leakage rates of climate-damaging HFC refrigerants and a high electricity demand. Hence, replacing HFCs with natural refrigerants have a sustainable impact on the climate friendliness of supermarkets. The two-day event will shed light on which natural refrigerant technologies are available, what needs to be considered when applying them and how market penetration can be promoted. It addresses manufacturers, food retailers and engineering offices as well as researchers in the field.
Participation at the ‚Green Cooling Summit‘ is free of charge.
