Discover Bauhaus Dessau-Roßlau

"Dessau is the city most closely associated with Bauhaus. It was here that the art and design school had its longest influence and enjoyed its heyday between 1925 and 1932. All three Bauhaus directors, Walter Gropius, Hannes Meyer and Mies van der Rohe, lived and worked here. This period was also the heyday of Bauhaus architecture, which is why most Bauhaus buildings are located in Dessau. The Bauhaus building, the Masters' Houses and the Arcade Houses, which are exemplary of the development of social housing in the last century, are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites. How the Bauhaus worked and operated as a university, how the ideas that still shape our everyday culture today came about – this is the story told by the collection presentation ‘Bauhaus: A Laboratory. The Collection’ at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau. (Quote from the Bauhaus Discover website) Further information at: https://www.bauhaus-entdecken.de/en/home

Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz – 25 years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

"With its unique density of monuments, the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz is an expression of the enlightened thinking of the Dessau royal court. The landscape became the “world view” of its time. It [...] was created in the second half of the 18th century on the middle Elbe and lower Mulde rivers. Located between the Bauhaus city of Dessau and Lutherstadt Wittenberg, it now covers 142 square kilometres and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site."
