Incorporating environmental requirements into tendering procedures is vital when it comes to reducing the significant pollutant, greenhouse gas and noise pollution occasioned by buses, particularly in urban areas, agglomerations and areas in need of protection.
Battery quality and safety requirements should also be taken into account. Care should be taken to ensure that the batteries used in buses remain available for as long as possible so that they can be readily replaced. Also, halogen-free refrigerant should be used for bus air conditioning.
