VACCA – Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Arctic

16.08.2021

Hintergrund und Ziele

Reduction of vulnerability and implementation of adaptation measures for climate change in the Arctic represent major challenges for this region. The project VACCA (Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Arctic) was approved by the Arctic Council in 2007 and is designed to prove practical and useful knowledge and to support the sharing of knowledge at different levels of government and between sectors, so that this knowledge can influence policy and decision making.

Objectives:

  • Eroduction of a study to collate and disseminate information on expertise, research as well as strategies and measures in the area of adaptation to climate change in the Arctic.
  • Organise an international expert/stakeholder workshop, in which leading experts, politicians, representatives of the SDWG (Sustainable Development Working Group of the Arctic Council) and key stakeholders can meet to discuss relevant issues relating to vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, as well as prepare recommendations for possible future actions in conjunction with the Arctic Council.
