Regional appraisal of climate change and the development of climate protection and adaptation strategies in the Schaalsee Biosphere Reservation region
Hintergrund und Ziele
As a model region for sustainable regional development, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Schaalsee wishes to make an active contribution to climate protection by testing sustainable land use and resource management forms for the region. A project entitled "Regional appraisal of climate change and the development of climate protection and adaptation strategies in the Schaalsee Biosphere Reservation region" was commissioned in order to implement the topic of climate protection in all planning, decision processes and actions in the long term, and to develop and implement corresponding projects for climate protection and adaptation to climate change. This study builds on the projected climate effects of an earlier study carried out at state level, entitled "Climate protection and the consequences of climate change in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania", by the Ministry for the Economy, Labour and Tourism (2008), with regard to the regional climate changes. The study is available in an unedited version and as a short summary. The short summary is available on the internet.
Objectives
- Audit regarding the most important climate-sensitive spheres of action in the Schaalsee Biosphere Reservation region;
- Clarification/regionalisation of the state-level study ("Climate protection and the consequences of climate change in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania") and illustration of the effects of the climate change on the biosphere reservation region;
- Derivation of regional recommendations for action on climate change and climate adaptation for climate-sensitive spheres of action;
- Derivation of key projects on the basis of regional recommendations for action;
