Abstract

The project aimed to assist the Kyrgyz authorities in the implementation of its nationwide Yak campaign in the Tien Shan Mountains, to reconcile the economic objectives of the extensive Yak-husbandry with environmental objectives and thus to preserve the biodiversity of alpine pastures in the Kara-Kujur valley of the Tien Shan Mountains. In order to achieve the project objective, a sustainable pasture and grazing management for the model region Naryn was developed and a marketing strategy for the livelihood of the local population was prepared.
