This is the conclusion of the European Environment Agency in its annual report on the pressures of the transport sector on the environment.

15.12.2014

The latest edition of the TERM report affirms that the European transport sector continues to generate excessive greenhouse gas emissions and has been unsuccessful in making necessary reductions in recent years. The same is true for noise and air pollution. The focus of this year's report is on long-distance travel. Although the majority of journeys are short distance, long-distance freight and passenger transport demand are responsible for around three quarters of the greenhouse gas transport emissions in Europe.
