Abstract

This project aimed to improve awareness, knowledge and cooperation between government officials, regional stakeholders, businesses and international organisations to promote the application of BAT and BREF principles for environmentally sustainable practices and to support green economic growth in the Central Asia region. A regional workshop provided participants from Central Asian countries with knowledge and experience in environmental management and the implementation of BAT principles and contributed to networking between the various stakeholders. A training-of-trainers workshop was aimed specifically at BAT experts from Kazakhstan and provided in-depth knowledge of the authorisation and monitoring practices of industrial plants in the areas of large-volume organic chemicals (LVOCs), wastewater treatment and waste management.
