Abstract

Citepa, the International Expert Centre on Air Pollution and Climate Change, supported the Kazakh International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center (IGTIPC) and its BAT Bureau in introducing Best Available Techniques (BAT) and developping Best Reference Documents (BREF). They jointly drafted exemplary BREFs on large combustion plants and on production of cement and lime. Citepa provided methodological support for the process of establishing BAT. The projects supported Kazakhstan in applying the principles of BAT for integrated permits granting to industrial installations. This way they contribute reducing air and water pollution and lead to a more efficient use of energy and ressources.
