The project “MeTra – Traceability for mercury measurements” (Oct 14 – Sep 17) will establish a metrological infrastructure for traceable mercury measurements in relevant environmental media (air, water, biota), as required by current and future national and international legislation aimed at controlling mercury emissions and releases.

Date and time

04.04.17 13:00 – 18:00
05.04.17 9:00 – 14:00

MeTra is conducted under the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP). The EMRP is jointly funded by the EMRP participating countries within EURAMET and the European Union. The project is coordinated by LNE (Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais, France) and the consortium consists of 13 JRP-partners from nine countries.

In the context of MeTra the workshop on mercury monitoring and regulation will combine science, technology, policy and regulation (see “Workshop Announcement”).

The objective of this workshop is to present project results, exchange knowledge and to discuss a range of questions, including

• What are the needs for better legislation and regulation for mercury in the environment?

• How can the results of MeTra support monitoring, including the Minamata effectiveness evaluation?

• What is the role of global environmental specimen banks in mercury monitoring?

• Can isotopic signatures help to unravel the geochemical mercury cycle?

• How do we organise case studies and systematic approaches in the future?

• What is the role of global environmental specimen banks in mercury monitoring?

The workshop is aimed at all institutions concerned with mercury measurements and environmental monitoring, e.g. research facilities, National Metrology Institutes, stakeholders of MeTra, regulatory and standardisation bodies and instrument manufacturers.

The workshop is organised by the German Environment Agency and will take place at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety in Berlin. It will include lectures, discussions and poster corners.

We look forward seeing you there.

The event is free but a binding registration is essential.

Please note:

The number of participants is limited. We therefore ask for early registration. The registrations are dealt with on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The programme will be announced soon.
