HLPF Special Event - Towards Sustainable Adaptation Pathways

International virtual panel discussion parallel to the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York. The German Environment Agency and its partners discuss with international experts the concept of Sustainable Adaptation Pathways, learning from integrative action targeting SDGs, Paris Agreement and Sendai Framework.

Time and Date: July 7th 2021, 12:00 – 13:30 (NY Time)

With the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, three global frameworks are in place to address the environmental, social and economic challenges of our times. Identifying synergies and increasing the policy coherence between these Post-2015-agendas is crucial to unleash their full potential and to explore sustainable adaptation pathways towards a resilient future. For a fruitful discussion, good practice examples will be presented that strengthen the capacities of people and institutions to adapt to climate-related risks while ensuring sustainable development.

This event aims to discuss the joint implementation insights on sustainable adaptation pathways gained within the research project “Joint implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement”. Targeting integrative action for SDGs, Paris Goals and Sendai Framework, a diverse and international panel of local and international experts will discuss interlinkages and overlaps between these agendas, as well as potential pathways for strengthening coherence, effectiveness and efficiency of the agendas based on on-the-ground experiences.
