When it comes to resource use, wastewater load, water use, and energy use, recovered paper is far better for the environment than paper made of wood fibres – all other characteristics being equal of course.

Sanitary paper products are normally used only once and are then flushed into the sewage system or are disposed of as waste, only sanitary paper products made of recovered paper should be used. Wherever possible low to medium quality secondary fibres should be used for sanitary paper products; these types of fibres account for the lion’s share of recovered paper.
