Abstract

The increasing overexploitation of natural resources threatens the livelihoods of the population in the Kara Kujur Valley and leads to conflicts. These are based on structural problems of the pasture management system and the interaction of pasture management and nature conservation, as well as on perception and knowledge deficits. The objectives of this project were to integrate ecological principles into pasture management and to protect endangered wildlife species. Selected communities in the project area were supported in the preparation of a inter-municipal pasture management plan and two new wildlife conservation associations were established.
