A virtual journey to a high alpine glacier, rescued crockery, recyclable denim production or the revival of old variety vegetables – the winners of the German Federal Ecodesign Award look for solutions to a more sustainable lifestyle with pioneering projects that are both ecological and excellent in their design.

Parliamentary State Secretary Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter at BMU said, "I am pleased to see that interest in the Federal Ecodesign Award remains undiminished despite the coronavirus pandemic. The design and ecological standards of the entries have steadily increased since the prize was first awarded. The Federal Ecodesign Award marks its 10th anniversary year as the most important government award for ecodesign."

UBA President Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner said, "This year's award winners clearly show that ecodesign is not just about improving products but about designing new systems and new ways of thinking. Designers are making an important contribution to the change towards a sustainable society and economy."

The video recording announcing the winners of the 2020 Federal Ecodesign Award will be published today (30 November 2020) at 17:00 on the websites of the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU), the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the Federal Ecodesign Award. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the awarding of the prize cannot take place in a festive setting as planned and the ceremony at the Federal Environment Ministry has been cancelled.

The Federal Environment Ministry and the German Environment Agency have awarded the Federal Ecodesign Prize every year since 2012 together with the International Design Center Berlin. The contest honours entries in the four categories "Product", "Service", "Concept" and "Young Talent" that are convincing from an environmental and design perspective. It is aimed at companies of all sizes and from all sectors as well as students.
