Due to the present circumstances, the deadline for the first-ever federal environmental building award called "UMWELT & BAUEN" has been extended. Contestants now have until 22 May 2020 to submit project entries.

All stakeholders in the building sector are invited to take advantage of the deadline extension and submit their projects. Builders, property developers, architects, building services, urban and landscape planners, producers and research institutions are welcome to submit their entries. The award is aimed at buildings or neighbourhoods in Germany in the advanced planning stage.

The prize is awarded in the categories "Residential Buildings", "Non-residential Buildings", "Neighbourhoods" and "Sustainability and Innovations". Three additional prizes will be awarded for especially innovative ideas. Resilience and sufficiency are the overriding themes of climate adaptation and other strategies to mitigate the consumption of resources. Building projects which take special consideration of biodiversity and thereby make a significant contribution to the protection and implementation of "City Nature" will also be honoured. The third area "Building Shell & Construction Product" focuses on novel solutions using innovative materials and on structural design. Multiple applications in a number of categories is possible.
