A: Transporting NEB into urban retrofits - are serial solutions the answer?

The Panel along the question “To which extent can serial approaches to energy renovations and retrofits help advance the NEB’s goal of creating inclusive, sustainable and aesthetic built environments?” features Ulla-Britt Krämer and Jan Kamphuis (INDU-ZERO), Jun. Prof. Jutta Albus (Chair of resource efficient building, TU Dortmund), Prof. Esra Kurul (School of the Build Environment, Oxford Brookes University), Prof. Matthias Rudolph (Deputy chairman of the Department of Architecture, Uni Stuttgart) and Mr. Uwe Bigalke (dena, Energiesprong).

B: Enhancing urban heat resilience in sponge cities

"Enhancing urban heat resilience in sponge cities” is concerned with strategies for implementing sponge city concepts through nature-based solutions to mitigate urban heat. The discussion will be inspired by inputs from Dr. Cinzia Davoli from the Metropolitan City of Milan (Italy) on innovative ways to realize sponge city concepts in urbanized territories, Dr. Liisa Andersen from the City of Vienna (Austria) on Vienna’s strategies to secure health and wellbeing in increasingly hot urban environments and Andrea Nóblega from the Department of Geography Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) with a critical perspective on urban greening.

C: Making cities beautiful and sustainable through co-designed temporary mobility interventions for children

The question "How can temporary interventions drive permanent change towards children friendly urban transportation?" is discussed along input by Peninah Ndegwa from Wow Mom (Nairobi / Kenya) on how to inspire change for children friendly mobility through empowerment, Katja Kluge from the City of Chemnitz (Germany) on experiences with temporary interventions the city made during the European Mobility Week, and Jan Peter Glock from UBA, who will talk about the potentials of temporary interventions for a transformation towards children friendly mobility.

D: Compact, green and mobile - supporting resilient and multifunctional urban spaces through qualified inner urban development

Discusses the challenges facing the resilient urban planning of our cities and the pertinent opportunities offered by the integration of mobility, green spaces and inner urban development. The discussion will be based on input by Katerina Gkoltsiou, President of the IFLA Europe, on Landscape Architect’s approach towards greener, healthier and resilient urban landscapes, by Gerhard Hauber, Executive Partner at Henning Larsen, on design considerations for climate adaptation and urban resilience and by Karl Eckert from German Environment Agency on the concept of qualified inner urban development.
