The Internet provides an indispensable aid for scientific and journalistic research. To make this work easier the Federal Environment Agency Press Office has published the following list of websites related to environmental protection, and has done so for several years. The first edition of “Environment online” was released in May 1998 with some 60 addresses, and that number has grown to nearly 500. Sheer quantity, however, was never our objective and we make no claim that the list is complete. Instead “Environment online” lists select addresses that provide environmental information and services interest to a wide public. Mere publicity and product offers are not enough to constitute the right to be featured on the list, for the selection is made by the Press Office alone. In addition to the addresses, you will find a short description of what they provide. This list is updated regularly.
