The 2008 progress report “Für ein nachhaltiges Deutschland“ (For a sustainable Germany) is now available. It also includes the current indicators report. One highlight is that in the future, new laws and ordinances will be vetted for their sustainability. Suggestions by citizens, associations and institutions have been incorporated into the report. The Federal Cabinet has already adopted it.
The expert dialogues on the German Sustainability Strategy carried out on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency dealt with wellbeing, demographic change, and the environment. Key results include the finding that in order to meet current societal challenges the concept of growth needs to be reassessed and holistic wellbeing concepts must be developed.
Conferences and events can burden the environment in various ways. The guide aims to support the people charged with preparing and conducting such events in doing so in an environmentally compatible fashion. The guide contains recommendations and tips relating to the most important key areas of event planning.
Using the Sinus Institute’s social environment models, the new environmental awareness study shows that justice in environmental protection is important to the public. Polluters should shoulder the costs resulting from their actions. Andreas Troge, President of the Federal Environment Agency, said: “The public’s willingness to act is on hand. It is now the task of politicians to devote more energy to environmental communication that is appropriate for its target group.”
25 large-format (68 x 98 cm) bilingual (German/English) posters show practical examples of Germany's world of sustainable consumption. The spectrum ranges from fair-trade goods, through quality labels for flowers, textiles or agricultural products, to sustainable fisheries or forestry. Also included are contributions on sustainable construction, sustainable tourism, resource productivity and environmental education.
