April 17 - 19, 2016 in Berlin, Germany

Human biomonitoring (HBM) is a key instrument for health-related environmental protection. It focuses on measuring the internal exposure of people to environmental chemicals, on assessing potential health effects as well as on detecting relevant contamination sources. HBM provides scientific data for informed decision making by regulators, policy makers and the general public. Moreover it allows to control the success of reduction measures and to identify areas for priority action.

In 2010 the first International Conference on Human Biomonitoring was jointly organized by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the German Environment Agency (UBA) to elucidate and describe the scientific challenges as well as the political benefits of HBM. Experts from 36 countries participated.

With the 2nd International Conference on Human Biomonitoring BMUB and UBA continue to bring together and discuss a broad variety of HBM activities conducted worldwide. International experts from science, politics and industry are asked to

  • examine the strengths and limitations of HBM in the detection and assessment of human exposure,
  • share information on potential health impacts that may arise from internal exposure to particular chemicals,
  • take a critical look at those substances which should be examined as a matter of priority, and
  • discuss the incorporation of HBM into national and international initiatives on environmental health.

The 2nd International Conference on Human Biomonitoring will take place in the centre of Berlin at the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus which is part of the Charité, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe.

We invite all interested professionals to join the conference and look forward to extensive information exchange on HBM and related issues with colleagues from all over the world.

We look forward to seeing you in Berlin!

Registration closed at April 3. For any further question, please contact the conference secretariat  by email to hbm [at] berlin-conferences [dot] de
